Camping:


The diverse countryside around the Rivers and the Peaks area of the North Thompson Valley provides campers with a wide array of choices. There are several provincial parks in the area, numerous golf courses, several resorts and even the resort Village of Sun Peaks all within close proximity to great lakes, rivers, trails and touring opportunities. Where ever you decide to camp for the night, there is always something close by to explore for the whole family! Excellent camping can found here:

  • Badger Lake BCRS
    • In the vicinity of Knouff and Sullivan lakes, this BCRS has 15 camp sites with boat launch, tables and toilets. 2-wheel drive access.
  • Community Lake BC Forestry Campground
    • Located approximately 35 km northeast of Kamloops. A 10-vehicle BCRS campsite with a boat launch and wharf is located on the lake.
  • Heffley Lake BC Forestry Campground BCRS
    • Located 44 km northeast of the city of Kamloops. There are two resorts at the eastern end of the lake and a BCRS (15 sites) on the north side. The lake has excellent fly fishing for rainbow trout, swimming, canoeing and biking.

    • Located 70 km northeast of Kamloops McGillivray Lake provides 2 BCRS's (8 sites), a forestry campsite, good

    • Located approximately 70 km northeast of Kamloops. This is a small lake with good rainbow trout fishing 2 BCRS’s (7 sites).

There are many great trails to explore that provide opportunity to see wildlife and a diverse range of amazing landscapes. From easy hikes to high adrenalin mountain biking experiences there is something for every level of adventurer. Check out these hot spots in the area:

  • Adams Lake Provincial Marine Park
  • Harper Mountain
  • Heffley Lake
    • Located 44 km northeast of the city of Kamloops. There are two resorts at the eastern end of the lake and a forestry camp site on the north side. The lake has excellent fly fishing for rainbow trout, swimming, canoeing and biking.
  • Johnson Lake
    • Located approximately 60 km north of the city of Kamloops. Known as the “Caribbean of the North" it is one of the clearest and most beautiful lakes in the Province. Due to limestone in the area, the lake attains the colour of the Caribbean Ocean and visibility into the water is well over 50 feet. Fish for trout or go swimming, scuba diving, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding or cross country skiing.
  • Knouff Lake
    • Located 45 km north of Kamloops. The lake has a forestry campsite, trout fishing biking and cross country ski trails.
  • Niskonlith Lake Provincial Park
  • Paul Lake
  • Pinantan Lake
    • Located approximately 20 km northeast of Kamloops. Pinantan Lake is a popular lake for fishing, water skiing, camping, canoeing, boating, hiking and cross country skiing.
