The Rivers and the Peaks area of the North Thompson Valley is home to the revered Kamloops Trout known for its physical strength and fighting character. If you prefer to go it alone, check out these amazing fishing locations:

  • Paul Lake Provincial Park: Approximately 23 km north east of the city of Kamloops, Paul Lake Provincial Park has 111 campsites complete with dry toilets, sani-station, playground and boat launching. Rainbows go to an average of 3-1/2 lbs. However, trout in the 7 lb. range are not all that uncommon. A great family vacation destination.
  • Pinantan Lake: About 13 km up the road from Paul Lake you will find this Rainbow Trout-stocked lake. Facilities include boat launch and picnic sites. Also a great recreation lake for the entire family.
  • Niskonlith Lake Provincial Park: Fish for Rainbow Trout and Kokanee. 30 campsites available

Adams River Rafting and Simpcwekwe: The River & Adventure Co. provide guided boat tours on the Adams River through Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park and the North Thompson River. Contact them to book your adventure:

 

Canoeing/Kayaking/Boating:


Many lakes in the area provide excellent opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, boating and event water skiing all within an easy drive of major amenities. Check out some of these popular locations:

  • Adams Lake Provincial Park
  • Heffley Lake
    • Located approximately 35 km northeast of Kamloops. A 10 vehicle BCFS campsite with a boat launch and wharf is located on the lake.
  • Knouff Lake
    • Located 45 km north of Kamloops. The lake has a forestry campsite, trout fishing biking and cross country ski trails.
  • McGillivray Lake
    • Located 70 km northeast of Kamloops McGillivray Lake provides a forestry campsite, good Rainbow Trout fishing and canoeing.
  • Niskonlith Lake Provincial Park
  • Paul Lake Provincial Park
  • Pinantan Lake
    • Located approximately 20 km northeast of Kamloops. Pinantan Lake is a popular lake for fishing, water skiing, camping, canoeing, boating, hiking and cross country skiing.
